CLEMENT ALLISON

ARTIST STATEMENT

Along with the aesthetic concerns of structural design, I have always been fascinated with the phenomenon of light.  I love the play of natural light and shadow effects, both in terms of the two-dimensional patterns they create as well as in how they define three-dimensional forms.  However, the emotional or spiritual aspects of light are especially meaningful to me and for that reason many of my paintings have a mystical quality that is deliberate on my part.  I am also inspired by the organic patterns of lines, colors, shapes and textures that are found in the natural environment, whether or not I am working representationally, or in a more abstract way.  I see these patterns as living expressions of the human form and consciousness as well as evidence of the divine interconnection we all have with our living planet and each other.
